Fans of the 1998 musical on which the musical is based will be thrilled by the fantastic live performance. Luke Brady delivers an exceptional performance as Moses, the lead role. Brady is a West End icon who has performed in such hits as The Taming of the Shrew, Sweeney Todd, and Tarantula in Petrol Blue. His singing voice works beautifully in the role and his acting chops are evident from the opening scene. Debbie Kurup puts forth a wonderful performance as Moses’ adoptive mother, Queen Tuya. Brady and Kurup work brilliantly together, showing a strong relationship that feels realistic.

While Brady is the star of the show, credit must be given to Liam Tamne as Ramses, Christine Allado as Tzipporah, Gary Wilmot as Jethro, Mercedesz Csampai as Yocheved, and Adam Pearce as Hotep. The smaller characters go the extra mile to create a comprehensive performance where everybody chips in.

You may be well-versed in the story of Moses, but The Prince of Egypt tells it in a way that will keep you captivated and wanting more. Thanks to the cast, you’ll be hanging on every word and jumping in surprise, even if you know what’s coming next. Stephen Schwartz, who wrote the music for the animated film, returns to the stage to keep up with his masterpiece. While there are some alterations, the music transfers very nicely to the stage, and there is a lot of fun to be had throughout the performance thanks to a fantastic score.

Scott Schwartz directs the play, and it is clear that there is great chemistry between the actors and him. The story runs smoothly through every scene, and the characters are always in the right place and conveying the right message. Combined with Sean Cheesman’s choreography, you have a well-rounded performance with top-notch dancing and singing for an entire evening.

The dancing (huge praise to the ensemble, they do steal the show with their contemporary dance moves) isn’t the only visual that will impress, however. Kevin Depinet’s set design is something to behold, and the lighting from Mike Billings and costumes from Ann Hould-Ward will not go unnoticed. These little complements make for a splendid aesthetic, and the creative teams deserve just as much praise as the cast who delivers the performance to us.
