Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton has become an international cultural phenomenon and remains one of the hottest tickets in any theatre district. While many have seen the production and raved about it, others have been unable to secure tickets and see what the hype is all about. However, for those who aren’t a fan of going to the theatre, they may be able to experience the original 2016 performance in the comfort of their own home.
Netflix is rumoured to be participating in a bidding war with Warner Brothers and Twentieth Century Fox to secure the rights to the recording of the famous Broadway production.
The hip-hop heavy musical tells the story of American revolutionary and founding father Alexander Hamilton and his scuffles with other prominent American figures, including Aaron Burr. Lin-Manuel Miranda stars as Hamilton in the original production, winning many awards not only for himself but for the cast and crew as well.
Hamilton is one of the most highly-reviewed musicals of recent times, and fans have gone back to see it multiple times since it opened on Broadway. For those who just can’t get enough but don’t want to keep going back to the theatre, this Netflix deal might just be the next best thing. Live stage action may be Netflix’s next major foray, as they recently bought the rights to the one-man Broadway show, Springsteen on Broadway.
