Joseph The Musical at the London Palladium

The biblical story of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, transformed into a musical, is opening at the London Palladium in June 2019!

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat Synopsis

The show begins with a narrator (played by Sheridan Smith) who tells children the story of a young dreamer, named Joseph (interpreted by Jac Yarrow), who was born in a family of 11 brothers. His father was so happy and proud of his son Joseph that he gave him a splendid coloured robe, which did nothing but unleash the envy of his brothers.

Their jealousy led them to sell him as a slave to some merchants that were travelling to Egypt and the brothers told their father that his favourite son died, returning the beautiful coloured robe stained with the blood of a beast as proof.

Joseph is sold as a slave in Egypt in the house of Potiphar, a wealthy merchant. However, Potiphar’s infatuated wife tries to seduce him repeatedly until Potiphar finds them in an unprofitable attitude by accident and locks Joseph in prison. This is where he meets two servants of the Pharaoh who have strange dreams, and Joseph offers to interpret them.

Meanwhile, the Pharaoh (played by Jason Donovan) has strange dreams that no one can decipher, and his baker remembers that man in prison who was able to interpret dreams accurately. Joseph then is brought from prison to interpret the Pharaoh’s dreams.

He then says seven years of abundance would come in which the grain would overflow in all the granaries, but seven more years of scarcity would follow. Therefore, the Pharaoh suggested keeping the food and more living sources for the first 7 years so they would not suffer the following 7.

The Pharaoh is impressed with Joseph’s interpretation and entrusts him with the responsibility of the grain reserve for the time of scarcity. As Joseph predicted, the times of misery arrive, and Joseph’s family in Canaan is desperate, deciding to go to Egypt because they have heard that there is a possibility of getting food there.

What will happen after Joseph meets his 11 brothers again? Will Joseph forgive them and will the story come to a nice end? Below we give you more information on when this show will run in London and more!
