Fans of Hans Christian Andersen are rejoicing as the brand-new production A Very Very Very Dark Matter is set to premiere at the Bridge Theatre in London’s West End. Not much is known about the ominous production, but it is based on Hans Christian Andersen and a supposed secret attic that serves as the inspiration for all of his dark and sometimes grotesque tales.
The play is written by Academy award-winning screenwriter Martin McDonagh and will be directed by Matthew Dunster, who has been nominated for multiple Olivier Awards. Jim Broadbent will star in the lead role as Hans Christian Andersen, with established actors Elizabeth Barrington and Phil Daniels joining him on the stage.
For fans of the legendary author, this should be a fun show that opens the door to new secrets about the mysterious man, but it won’t be just for the die-hards. With the pairing of McDonagh and Dunster, we can be sure that we are getting a well-written story made even better by fantastic direction and a cast that boasts a fine mix of veteran and newfound talent.
A Very Very Very Dark Matter will have its opening in October, a perfect time for a dark, spooky play with Halloween coming up. Make sure to get your tickets, because this promises to be an exciting and innovative production.
