The West End is going to gain a bright new star this holiday season, with A Christmas Story: The Musical set to debut at the Waterloo East Theatre this Christmas! The classic, hilarious story of Ralphie and his quest to secure a Red Ryder BB Gun from Santa Claus will be taking the stage and is sure to provide plenty of laughs for festive families celebrating the holiday seasons.
Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, known together as Pasek and Paul, wrote the songs for the play, which debuted on Broadway in 2013 to rave reviews and immense fanfare. The iconic musical duo is responsible for the soundtracks to Dear Evan Hansen and Academy Award-winning films La La Land and The Greatest Showman. This is a slightly different endeavor for them, but they have the talent to make it a masterpiece and they’ve already proven it on Broadway.
A Christmas Story: The Musical will be a delightful romp through the Parker family’s holiday season, chock full of tacky Christmas decorations and Santa outfits. If you’ve been a lifelong fan of the classic of holiday film, you will be sure to find pleasure in the live-action musical version, as the songs fit perfectly with the theme of the story. Even those who haven’t had the pleasure of watching the movie will find plenty to laugh about with this production. This is the 5th musical I am going to be seeing in December. When I first heard about the musical, I was puzzled: it seemed odd of a musical.
Blumenthal Performing Arts is how tours get through Charlotte: they have a young adult group called Club Blume. I am going to A Christmas Story Musical with Club Blume. Two weeks ago, through the group, I went to an informance learning more about the Musical, and that got me more interested in the musical itself. So A Christmas Story musical will be my 5th musical this year.
Living in Charlotte, NC means having to rely on tours
